George Jedrey, 79, Betty Jedrey, 85, and Son Thomas Pinard, 64, Found Dead in Suspected Murder Suicide at Stanwood Residence

Authorities in Stanwood are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after three members of the same family were found dead during a welfare check at their home on Wednesday morning, April 22, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the residence at around 10:30 a.m. after concerns were raised that the occupants had not been heard from. The property is located in rural Mecosta County, a quiet area north of Grand Rapids made up of farmland and scattered homes. Upon arrival, a deputy conducted an exterior check and observed a deceased person through a window, prompting immediate entry into the home.

Inside, authorities discovered three deceased individuals: George Jedrey, 79; his wife Betty Jedrey, 85; and their son Thomas Pinard, 64. Investigators confirmed that all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to officials, there were no signs of forced entry, no evidence of a break-in, and no indication of external involvement. All vehicles in the driveway belonged to the residents, and the home showed no visible damage from the outside. Based on these findings, investigators believe the incident was a murder-suicide involving gunshot wounds.

Authorities stated that no outside suspect is being sought. At this stage, evidence suggests the violence occurred inside the home and was carried out by one of the victims before their death. However, the exact sequence of events and who was responsible has not yet been publicly confirmed.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive and circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Autopsies and forensic analysis are expected to provide additional clarity, including the timeline of deaths and potential mental or medical factors that may have played a role.

The deaths have deeply shocked the local community, where such incidents are rare. Residents describe Stanwood as a close-knit rural area where neighbors often know one another. The loss of three family members at once has left relatives and the wider community grieving and searching for answers.

As investigators continue their work, officials are urging patience as they piece together what led to the fatal events inside the home.
