Marlin Drieman Accident 88, Dies After Being Struck by Dump Truck on Highway 50
A tragic two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 east of Vincennes has left the community mourning the loss of 88-year-old Marlin Drieman of Monroe City, who died following the collision on Tuesday.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene after reports of a serious crash involving a pickup-style truck and a dump truck. Investigators say Drieman was traveling south on Anson Road when he failed to yield while entering eastbound traffic on Highway 50.
At the same time, a dump truck driven by 46-year-old Scotty Demoss of Solsberry, Indiana, was heading east on Highway 50. Authorities report that the dump truck struck the passenger side of Drieman’s vehicle with significant force. After the impact, both vehicles came to rest in a nearby ditch.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked the scene, but despite their efforts, Marlin Drieman was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.
Officials with the Indiana State Police are now handling the crash reconstruction as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to piece together the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision, including roadway conditions and driver actions.
During the emergency response, a second crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 50. That incident is being investigated separately, and officials confirmed that those involved suffered only minor injuries. The two crashes led to a full closure of both directions of the highway for several hours while crews cleared debris and ensured the roadway was safe.
As the investigation continues, Marlin Drieman is being remembered by family and community members as they cope with the sudden loss of a loved one. His passing has left a deep sense of grief, especially given the unexpected nature of the crash and his long life prior to the tragedy.
Authorities have urged patience as they continue their work to determine all contributing factors in the incident.
